2:40pm: EFFECTIVE GLOBAL TALENT MANAGEMENT

Dr. Dagmar Wilbs, Head of Human Capital Practice
Mercer (based in Germany)

Managing talents on a global basis is one of the most critical challenges organizations face today. Being already demanding in a national business, the effective identification, development, and retention of high performing employees in critical jobs is far more complex in multinational environments. For example, in emerging markets like the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China), the increasing shortage of highly skilled talents, combined with the high turnover rates of these fast developing competitive markets, make Human Capital a key success factor. A proactive exposure with these aspects from both, local companies as well as multinationals, therefore is key to avoid talent shortage, leadership gaps, and deficiencies in human capital management.

A successful Global Talent Management approach in these regions is driven by the organization's business needs, as well as strongly impacted by regional market and cultural specifics. External recruiting sources and processes must be defined specifically, internal development programmes need to consider local environments, and levers for higher retention rates must be identified. As a consequence, an integrated as well as differentiated global Talent Management Approach is key to manage the extreme imbalance of supply and demand of talents in these regions.

Moving into a new position of leadership is one of the toughest challenges people face. Nearly half of new leaders fail in their first eighteen months. Often, failure is the result of crucial mistakes made in the very beginning. Critical mistakes made so early can be devastating for companies and leaders alike. But how can organizations and new leaders avoid them?

Learn how new leaders can take charge, build their teams, and get great results in new roles faster than anyone thought possible. This is important because of the time value of accelerated performance and because delivering better results faster is the best way to reduce the risk of failure in a new leadership role.
